Worked example: a 6 kg bag at $60

At 240 g per day, a 6 kg bag lasts 25 days. Daily cost is $2.40, an average 30.44-day month costs $73.06, and 365 days costs $876. These are arithmetic examples, not feeding recommendations or market prices.

What about wet food, cans or cups?

Use the net weight on the package: for twelve 85 g pouches, enter 1,020 g. If feeding one pouch a day, enter 85 g daily. A cup measures volume, so it cannot be converted to food weight universally; use the product’s grams-per-cup information or weigh the serving. Calculate wet and dry foods separately when both are fed.

Understand the method

After converting both weights to the same unit, daily cost equals package price divided by package weight, multiplied by daily use. The monthly estimate uses 30.44 days and the annual estimate uses 365 days. Taxes, delivery, discounts, waste, and price changes are not added unless included in the package price you enter.

Cost is not suitability

A cheaper daily cost does not establish that a food is nutritionally appropriate. Compare cost only after confirming the food and amount with the label and an appropriate veterinary professional.
